About The Position

This position involves operating lab equipment to provide finished product analytics. The role requires collecting hourly samples from various systems, including fat, feather, and blood samples. It demands significant physical activity such as repetitive climbing of vertical ladders, extensive walking throughout the plant, and the ability to work at heights. The Sample Runner will also assist in other plant areas between sample collections, adhere to Standard Work Instructions and Training within Industry principles, and maintain a clean and organized work environment. This role is crucial for monitoring production speeds and quality, and ensuring all departmental forms are completed accurately. The individual must be able to work with little supervision, recognize and mitigate hazards, and actively participate as a supportive team member, contributing to team concepts, programs, and policies. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems and a commitment to supporting business objectives are also essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate lab equipment to provide finished product analytics.
  • Ability to collect hourly samples from various systems (fat, feather, blood).
  • Ability to perform repetitive climbing, including vertical ladders, and pull up own weight.
  • Not afraid of heights.
  • Ability to walk and stand for more than 10 hours per shift.
  • Ability to work in a wet, noisy, dusty, humid, hot, or cold environment.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, push, and pull.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires upper body and arm strength.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Computer skills.
  • Penmanship skills.
  • Ability to realize hazards and take precautions.
  • Familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
  • Must wear Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, and H2S monitor and full face respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Collect hourly samples for each of the 3 systems, 2 fat samples, feather samples, and blood samples.
  • Operate lab equipment to provide finished product analytics.
  • Perform repetitive climbing, including vertical ladders, and extensive walking throughout the plant.
  • Assist in other areas of the plant between sample collections.
  • Read, understand, and follow all Standard Work Instructions (S.W.I.) and Training within Industry (T.W.I.) utilizing Lean rules and principles.
  • Work safely following all Simmons policies and requirements, and regulations from government agencies concerning safety, environment, and vehicles.
  • Operate all equipment, monitor and maintain production speeds and quality of the finished product.
  • Keep the department clean and uncluttered throughout the shift.
  • Complete all forms in the department.
  • Perform essential position responsibilities with little or no supervision.
  • Realize hazards and take precautions.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team initiatives.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Support Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives, maintaining familiarity with quality, security, and office environment systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
