About The Position

KHAITE is seeking a highly skilled Part-Time Sample Room Cutter to join their in-house atelier in NYC. This role is crucial for the development process, supporting the creation of prototypes, development samples, and SMS garments through precise cutting, material management, and early-stage garment preparation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation, exceptional attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to fabric handling, yield tracking, atelier organization, and material testing.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience as a sample cutter in a luxury sample room or atelier environment
  • Strong understanding of pattern reading, grainlines, and garment construction requirements
  • Proven ability to calculate accurate fabric yields during development stages
  • Experience managing fabric inventory and material flow within a sample room or atelier
  • High level of precision and consistency in cutting across a range of fabric types
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining quality

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in luxury RTW or couture development environments
  • Familiarity with leather cutting and specialty materials
  • Experience supporting design-led development and early-stage mock-ups
  • Experience with fuse/interlining testing and material behavior

Responsibilities

  • Execute cutting of first prototypes, 2nd prototypes, and SMS samples with precision and efficiency
  • Interpret patterns, markers, and development direction to ensure accurate execution
  • Partner closely with Sample Room Sewers, Technical Design, and Product Development to support sample build from cut to completion
  • Prepare and cut mock-ups, toile garments, and test pieces for early-stage development and construction trials
  • Calculate and track fabric yields for prototype garments, ensuring accuracy for costing and development alignment
  • Maintain and manage fabric inventory, including tracking usage, flagging shortages, and supporting reorders
  • Oversee fabric room organization, ensuring all materials are clearly labeled, stored properly, and easily accessible
  • Manage fuse testing for development, including testing interlinings across fabrications, documenting results, and partnering with Technical Design on final selections
  • Ensure proper fabric handling and cutting techniques based on material type (silk, leather, denim, specialty fabrics, etc.)
  • Assist the Atelier Manager in pulling and preparing sample packages, including organizing patterns, fabrics, trims, and cut components for internal development and external partners
  • Support special projects, runway samples, and VIP garments with elevated attention to detail
  • Maintain a high standard of atelier workflow, cleanliness, and efficiency
