About The Position

The Salvage position is responsible for inspecting and repairing products. This role involves performing hourly checks, verifying product information against documentation, preparing for line checks, and ensuring calibration of inspection equipment. The position also includes duties related to scrap product, such as operating a Magnetic Particle Unit, adding fluid or powder, changing bulbs, and reporting any equipment or quality issues. Inspectors will perform dimensional checks, identify visual defects, tag and move nonconforming parts, sort mixed product, and grind out defects. Additionally, the role may involve preparing parts for lab samples and packaging materials for shipment (PPAP's). The Salvage position also requires maintaining a clean work area and adhering to all safety and plant rules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus.
  • One to three months’ related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively report data and job specific information as needed.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks, and other systems where applicable.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to learn all inspection equipment necessary to perform duties.

Responsibilities

  • Performs hourly checks and records information.
  • Verifies that the tags on the unit match the pieces being inspected.
  • Obtain the Inspection Data Sheets necessary for daily inspection from the shift foreman.
  • Verifies MWF Part Print requirements are entered on the daily paperwork used for line checks.
  • Prepares for Forge and Extrusion line hourly checks.
  • Verifies that calibrations are current on all gaging used to perform checks.
  • Prepares Inspection time ticket.
  • When necessary, performs duties associated with scrap product.
  • Performs tests on Magnetic Particle Unit.
  • Adds fluid or powder as needed.
  • Changes bulb if needed.
  • Reports any problems with unit to the shift supervisor immediately.
  • Reports any Quality or functional problem to the shift foreman immediately.
  • Uses any or all of the equipment listed to perform the inspection functions.
  • In performing dimensional checks watches for obvious visual defects such as cracks, pinches, rings, part number error, or heat code error.
  • Places a nonconforming tag and moves discrepant parts to the designated hold area for disposition.
  • Sorts out mixed product, grinds out pinches or cracked material, or restamps product if necessary.
  • May be required to prepare parts for lab samples.
  • Obtains and prepares material for initial sample requirements, and packages material properly for shipment (PPAP’s).
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Follows all safety and plant rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
