About The Position

The Sales Tax Staff Accountant is a key member of the Accounting team, responsible for ensuring accurate and timely sales and property tax reporting, supporting month-end close activities, and contributing to the integrity of financial reporting across the organization. This role plays an important part in maintaining compliance, improving processes, and supporting overall financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with sales and property tax reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access)
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Customer-service mindset with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • High level of integrity and commitment to ethical decision-making
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism

  • Experience with ERP systems such as Prelude, NetSuite, or Oracle preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and prepare monthly jurisdictional sales tax reporting using Avalara
  • Maintain and validate resale exemption certificates
  • Monitor nexus exposure and ensure ongoing compliance
  • Review, reconcile, and process monthly sales tax filings and payments
  • Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities
  • Complete timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and variance analysis
  • Ensure all close activities are completed in accordance with established timelines and accounting policies
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations for multiple bank accounts, including deposit, CDA, payroll, and others
  • Maintain fixed asset records and ensure accurate accounting treatment
  • Support property tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliations
  • Conduct general ledger research, analysis, and reconciliations to support accurate financial reporting
  • Perform financial and cost analysis to support business decision-making
  • Assist with ad hoc reporting and analysis requests from Finance leadership
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial data
  • Support internal and external audits and related compliance activities
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Participate in documentation of SOPs and process improvement initiatives
  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by Finance leadership
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Represent VSI in a professional and business-aligned manner at all times
