About The Position

The Outside Sales Representative - Lawn & Garden Specialist generates sales with new and existing customers by understanding their business, identifying their needs, pitching relevant products, and ensuring they have a positive experience. The role involves managing and growing an assigned territory by understanding the industry, customer needs, and product capabilities. The representative will identify new customers, prepare sales materials, arrange meetings, and keep customers informed of market trends. They will also act as a profitability resource, suggest cost-saving measures, process orders, and ensure customer satisfaction through effective follow-up and issue resolution. Participation in training, workshops, and networking events is expected to maintain industry knowledge and product expertise. The role also requires preparing reports and providing feedback for sales initiatives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience as an outside sales representative.
  • Strong customer service mentality essential.
  • Ability to learn and apply diverse customer, vendor, or third-party requirements.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of products and make recommendations.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with customers.
  • Ability to work with current sales representatives.
  • Excellent Excel and general computer skills. (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business or marketing preferred.
  • 2-3 years of garden center/retail management and or purchasing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, and grows the assigned territory by exhibiting a thorough knowledge of the industry, the customer’s business needs and product capabilities.
  • Identifies potential new customers through various channels, prepares sales materials and arranges meetings to introduce the company and its products.
  • Keeps customers informed of market trends and associated product offerings.
  • Serves as a profitability resource to customers by suggesting ways to reduce cost, increase margin or expand growing space.
  • Submits and processes orders ensuring customers receive the products or services they require within the anticipated period.
  • Provides effective follow-up contact with customers. Assesses the customer’s satisfaction with the product and service provided. Works with internal departments to resolve customer issues promptly.
  • Participate in ongoing training and workshops and attend networking events to develop and maintain an understanding of industry trends, product knowledge, and network.
  • Prepare reports and provide feedback in support of sales initiatives for management and marketing departments.
