Sales Operations Engineer

Orchard RoboticsSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

Orchard is seeking its first Sales Operations Engineer to build the operating system for its rapidly scaling sales organization. This hybrid role involves both hands-on operational tasks and engineering solutions to make sellers more effective. Initially, the focus will be on operational tasks such as account research, CRM administration, proposal coordination, and trade show logistics. By performing these tasks manually, the individual will gain deep insights into seller workflows and system breakdowns, which will then inform the engineering of scalable internal applications, AI automations, integrations, and processes. The goal is to transition manual work into automated systems, design and improve sales processes and playbooks, and coordinate complex deals by bridging Sales with Engineering, Operations, Customer Success, and leadership. The role also includes owning trade shows and sales programs, and developing repeatable systems for market entry. This position is distinct from a traditional Sales Operations analyst or a pure software engineering role, requiring a candidate who is comfortable with both detailed execution and strategic system building. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of B2B sales, a proven ability to use technology and automation to enhance team productivity, and a willingness to perform manual tasks before automating them. Excellent communication skills and a low-ego, proactive approach are essential.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a high-ownership role spanning GTM engineering, sales operations, revenue operations, internal tools, software engineering, or startup operations.
  • You know how to code and are fluent at using AI coding tools. You have the technical ability to independently build useful internal applications, integrations, and automations.
  • An understanding of B2B or enterprise sales and what sellers need. You can observe how sellers work, identify the most important bottlenecks, build practical solutions, and iterate based on real usage.
  • A track record of using software, AI, or automation to eliminate repetitive work and make a customer-facing team meaningfully more productive.
  • A willingness to do work manually before automating it. You are equally comfortable building an internal tool, fixing CRM records, preparing customer materials, or packing equipment for a trade show.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to turn fragmented knowledge into clear processes, playbooks, training, and technical requirements.
  • Low ego, good judgment about process, and you take ownership without waiting to be directed.

Responsibilities

  • Own the recurring non-selling work that currently slows down AEs, including account research, CRM administration, proposals, internal coordination, and sales event logistics.
  • Develop applications, AI-powered workflows, integrations, and automations that help sellers advance opportunities.
  • Execute operational work yourself until you understand it deeply, then standardize and automate it.
  • Design and improve our sales processes, playbooks, and workflows, while owning seller-facing CRM architecture, workflows, and integrations.
  • Coordinate the customer materials, technical resources, and cross-functional work required across Sales, Engineering, Operations, Customer Success, and leadership to help complex deals move forward.
  • Plan and execute conferences, field days, customer events, and other sales programs, including logistics, staffing, materials, and follow-up.
  • Turn what works into repeatable systems that support new crops, customer segments, countries, and new sales hires.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of employee premiums covered.
