About The Position

The Sales Manager, White Oils & Specialties is responsible for building business relationships with existing and prospective customers and distributors. This role involves coordinating with other Sales and Segment Marketing Managers to achieve sales and marketing goals for assigned specialty and white oil products, as well as day-to-day sales objectives within a specific geography and industries. The position requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders and participation in cross-functional teams to identify and develop new or specialized products to meet client needs. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing long-term sales plans and pricing strategies, analyzing forecasts, reviewing pricing and volume performance, and maintaining accurate records using Salesforce. The role also involves making daily pricing recommendations, participating in RFIs and RFQs, negotiating contracts, and producing business proposals. Collaboration with technical teams (Chemists, R&D, Formulators, Process Engineers) is essential for gaining product approvals. Market research, data analysis, and competitor assessment are crucial for identifying sales opportunities and new product needs. The Sales Manager will also assist with crisis management related to supply interruptions and coordinate with various departments to ensure timely product supply and invoicing. Representation at industry functions and assistance with marketing material development are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of Account Management experience within the Petrochemical industry.
  • Business to business and new business development sales experience is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience is required.
  • Good understanding of customers, competitors, markets, new technologies, and global supply/demand dynamics.
  • Self-starter with drive and ability to achieve planned objectives.
  • Able to perform a variety of high-level sales and business development assignments effectively.
  • Ability to create and nurture mutual respect with peers and a positive teamwork environment.
  • Advanced creative, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong crisis management skills: ability to handle situations involving conflicts arising out of products being off specification, short/long term refinery/logistical /human error problems causing product outages, customer complaints, etc.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with others at all levels of an organization in writing or verbally.
  • Ability to perform intermediate level mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to perform a variety of high-level, complex assignments related to assigned petroleum product, assigned petroleum product marketing and trade assignments effectively, execute sales opportunities and multi-task.
  • Depending upon assignment, the ability to understand the chemical/technical characteristics of specialized petroleum and natural based products.
  • Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, with valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to perceive color differences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the sales or technical sales of specialty chemicals or white oils is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Chemistry or Engineering is preferred.
  • MBA considered an asset.
  • Experience using SalesForce, Power BI, SAP an asset.
  • An understanding of supply and distribution and refining procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Builds business relationships with existing and prospective customers and distributors.

  • Identifies and develops new or specialized products and markets for white oils and specialty ingredients.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements long-term sales plans and pricing strategies.
  • Analyzes and maintains an accurate forecast.
  • Analyzes and reviews pricing and volume performance and trends.
  • Completes adequate call reports, account plans, and updates leveraging SalesForce.
  • Makes daily pricing recommendations, participates in customer RFIs and RFQs, negotiates sales contracts, and produces complex business proposals.
  • Works with Chemists, Research and Development, Formulators, and Process Engineers to gain product approvals.
  • Researches market conditions, collects and analyzes market data to verify price information, assess competitors, and identify sales opportunities.
  • Assists with crisis management in response to supply interruptions.
  • Coordinates with various departments to facilitate timely supply of products and invoicing.
  • Represents the company at industry functions and association meetings.
  • Assists with developing marketing materials and technical bulletins.
  • Performs special assignments or tasks as assigned by their manager.
