Position Summary The Sales Engineer guides customer opportunities from discovery through project award and execution, turning site needs into technically and commercially viable BESS solutions. You’ll work directly with customers and industry partners and connect their requirements with PHENOGY’s Product and Engineering teams, influencing solutions and commercial decisions as the business grows.

Requirements

  • Experience in technical sales, business development, applications engineering, project development, or another customer-facing technical role.
  • Experience in energy storage, renewable or distributed energy, power conversion, microgrids, industrial electrical systems, or a related field.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand electrical systems, drawings, technical documentation, and customer requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop customer relationships and advance complex sales opportunities; sound commercial judgment and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, work independently, and coordinate across teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial, industrial, or utility-scale BESS; sodium-ion and lithium-ion technologies; PCS or inverter integration.
  • BMS, EMS, SCADA, Modbus, Ethernet, industrial communications, distributed energy resources, microgrids, or grid-connected systems.
  • Energy storage permitting, certification, interconnection, and applicable NEC, NFPA, UL, or IEEE standards.
  • Experience with international product, engineering, or manufacturing teams, new technologies, or growth-stage businesses.
  • Established professional networks in the BESS industry in New York and California, especially with developers, EPCs, utilities, and certification and regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage opportunities for PHENOGY BESS solutions across the U.S. and North America.
  • Identify and engage commercial and industrial customers, utilities, municipalities, developers, EPCs, integrators, and channel partners.
  • Lead opportunities from discovery through technical evaluation, proposal, negotiation, and project award; understand customer goals, project economics, requirements, procurement processes, and timelines.
  • Coordinate pricing, proposals, and project-specific offers with internal teams; track opportunity status, risks, requirements, and next steps.
  • Build long-term relationships, identify repeat business, and represent PHENOGY at customer meetings and industry events.
  • Lead customer discussions as a technically credible commercial resource and assess applications, site requirements, load profiles, electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and system configurations.
  • Support preliminary system sizing and discussions of BESS architecture, power conversion, controls, communications, and balance-of-system requirements.
  • Work with Product and Engineering to develop solutions, answer technical questions, prepare proposals and specifications, and explain product capabilities, limitations, and tradeoffs.
  • Identify technical requirements, integration challenges, and commercial risks early; help ensure proposed solutions and commercial commitments align with PHENOGY’s capabilities and project scope.
  • Stay engaged after award to support handoff and project execution, join design reviews or site meetings as needed, and coordinate issue resolution with the appropriate teams.
  • Connect North American customers with PHENOGY’s Product, Engineering, project, and leadership teams in the U.S. and Europe; translate customer, project, regulatory, and market needs into clear internal priorities.
  • Share customer feedback, competitive developments, and market intelligence to inform product, pricing, commercialization, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Identify new customer segments, applications, partnerships, and routes to market, including opportunities for PHENOGY’s sodium-ion technology.
