About The Position

The Sales Audit & Sales Tax Associate is responsible for supporting the Company's retail accounting and sales tax functions by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of retail financial transactions. This role performs daily and monthly reconciliations, researches discrepancies, prepares sales and use tax filings, and partners with stores and cross-functional teams to resolve issues while maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile retail store bank accounts and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
  • Research and resolve daily cash over/short discrepancies.
  • Process corporate checks and related transactions.
  • Prepare and record journal entries to correct transactional issues.
  • Reconcile credit card receivables and research payment discrepancies.
  • Respond to inquiries from store personnel and provide accounting support.
  • Research and resolve chargebacks received from credit card processors.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns.
  • Research tax notices and assessments and coordinate timely responses.
  • Support state and local tax audits by gathering documentation and responding to requests.
  • Coordinate the setup of merchant IDs, bank accounts, and other financial requirements for new store openings.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with stores and internal business partners.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
