About The Position

As a Sales Associate at Petco, you are central to the Pet Care Center experience. You help pet parents find suitable products and solutions while creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment. The role is suited to someone who enjoys helping others, learning about pet care, and working with a team in a fast-paced retail environment.

The position combines customer service and sales with cashiering, stocking, inventory support, merchandising, store recovery, and daily operational tasks. Associates support animal health and safety in accordance with Petco policies and standards, share accurate product and pet care information, and help maintain a clean, organized, and appealing sales floor.

The role is performed in a Pet Care Center retail environment with active engagement on the sales floor. It involves frequent standing and walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting, including safely moving merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds. Associates work near animals and may be exposed to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals. Flexible availability is required to support store operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Requirements

• Passion for animals and an interest in pet care.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills and comfort handling cash and transactions.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
• Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in proximity to animals and tolerate exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals.
• Flexible availability to support operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support the health, safety, and proper care of animals in accordance with Petco policies and standards.
• Share accurate product and pet care information to help customers make informed choices.
• Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful, solution-focused, courteous, and knowledgeable service.
• Create positive shopping experiences that build customer trust and loyalty.
• Assist customers in selecting products and services that meet their pets’ needs.
• Educate customers about products, services, and promotions, and support store sales and service goals.
• Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently, including cashiering and point-of-sale transactions.
• Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, organized, and visually appealing store and sales floor.
• Stock shelves, replenish merchandise, and support inventory integrity and stock accuracy.
• Assist with store recovery, merchandising, promotional set-ups, and daily operational routines.
• Collaborate with teammates and follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Support additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
