About The Position

The Sales Associate sells general merchandise using professional selling techniques and works as part of a sales team to provide service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. The role includes assisting with all aspects of operating a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, including opening and closing, preparing and displaying products, replenishing goods, and cleaning stations and equipment as necessary. The associate greets and assists customers, recommends merchandise and complementary items, communicates product information, and completes sales transactions. They maintain assigned areas, support inventory and displays, perform cash register transactions, handle customer returns and concerns in accordance with store policies, and complete related paperwork. The position also supports theft deterrence and may participate in applicable commission and gainsharing incentive programs. For Minimarts operating a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, duties may include opening and closing the bar; operating equipment; preparing and displaying products; replenishing products and condiments; dating and storing food and beverage products; cleaning small wares and equipment; and monitoring refrigerator and freezer temperatures. The associate may be required to attend initial food safety training and annual refresher training. The job requires lifting up to 25 pounds as related to assigned duties.

Responsibilities

Greet and engage customers, provide sales assistance, help select merchandise, and suggest complementary items.
Offer extended product warranties where applicable and explain coverage, benefits, and price.
Interact professionally with customers and coworkers, follow NEX dress code and uniform standards, and support other sales team members.
Develop knowledge of merchandise, including setup, use, care, characteristics, price points, and warranty coverage, and communicate product information to customers.
Keep assigned areas stocked and merchandise neatly arranged; communicate inventory and customer-related observations to supervisors or store managers.
Participate in department meetings and exchange ideas about customer service, job performance, and sales goals.
Complete sales transactions efficiently and thank customers for their patronage.
Perform cash register transactions accurately and in accordance with procedures, including cash, charge, check, gift certificate, and layaway transactions.
Inform customers about sales events and Navy Exchange services, and offer NEXCARD accounts while explaining account benefits.
Learn and apply store policies and systems, including merchandise returns, price matching, check cashing, and rain checks; handle customer returns and problems tactfully.
Maintain awareness in assigned areas and provide customer service to help deter theft.
Unpack, stage, and move merchandise; assist with store displays and periodic inventories.
Complete paperwork related to merchandise and inventory movement, price adjustments, returns, and cash register operations accurately.
Participate in applicable commission and gainsharing sales incentive programs.
Lift up to 25 pounds as required for duties such as assisting customers and stocking merchandise.
For applicable Minimarts, open and close the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar and turn equipment on or off as required.
Preheat and display products in the heated display merchandiser.
Replenish products and condiments in beverage bar holding bins.
Date and refrigerate products remaining at closing, and ensure food and beverage products are properly time-dated to maintain quality and integrity.
Clean small wares and equipment throughout the day and at closing.
Check refrigerator and freezer temperatures at least three times daily.
Attend initial food safety training and annual refresher training if required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
