Requirements

  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Clean driving record.
  • High school diploma preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience in a retail sales role, preferably in a hardware store or home improvement setting, is desired but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of hardware products and their various applications, as well as an ability to quickly learn about new products.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and deliver exceptional service.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks when restocking merchandise or assisting customers with heavy items.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early evenings (until 7:00 pm), weekends, and holidays.
  • Comfortable using a computerized POS system and other retail-related software.
  • Quick thinking and resourcefulness in addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds. Use a hand-truck or other resource to move/carry heavier items.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanor, inquire about their hardware needs, and offer knowledgeable advice and recommendations to help them find suitable products.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the hardware store's inventory, including tools, building materials, plumbing supplies, electrical products, and other hardware items. Stay updated on new products and industry trends.
  • Proactively engage with customers to understand their project requirements and upsell additional products or accessories that align with their needs.
  • Ensure products are well-organized and appropriately displayed on shelves. Restock merchandise as needed and maintain a clean and tidy store environment.
  • Efficiently process customer transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash, credit card, and other payment methods accurately.
  • Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with store policies, ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to guidelines.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels, conduct periodic stock checks, and notify management when products need to be reordered.
  • Address customer inquiries, complaints, and returns promptly and professionally, aiming to resolve issues to their satisfaction while adhering to store policies.
  • Promote a safe shopping environment by following all safety protocols, including the proper use of equipment and handling hazardous materials.
  • Work collaboratively with other sales associates, cashiers, and store management to best assist customers and maintain a positive store atmosphere.
  • Participate in ongoing product training sessions to enhance product knowledge and improve sales techniques.
