About The Position

As a Customer Service Associate in the Tools department, you provide friendly, professional customer service and help customers find products and services for home improvement projects. You listen to customers, answer questions, assist with product selection and handling, and occasionally load merchandise. You also organize and replenish merchandise, process orders and deliveries, and prepare products based on customer needs. Associates may cross-train in other store areas and perform additional assigned duties. The role is primarily store-based and does not require regular travel, although occasional travel to meetings, training, or neighboring stores may be needed. Work may involve indoor and outdoor conditions, varying climates, noise, and moving or shaking objects and equipment.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
• At least 6 months of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic, including addition and subtraction.
• Ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary for the job.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds unassisted, or more than 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
• Follow lifting guidelines, which limit single lifts to 75 pounds; team lifts are used minimally starting at 75 pounds or when needed. Use powered equipment as required, with proper training or assistance from a trained coworker.

Nice To Haves

• At least 6 months of retail and/or customer service experience.
• Bilingual skills.
• Certification in a trade related to the department, such as hardware, kitchen, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, or lumber/building materials.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers, answer questions, and provide friendly, professional service.
• Help customers locate, select, and handle merchandise.
• Replenish merchandise by identifying empty shelf areas and down stocking products.
• Process orders and deliveries accurately and on time.
• Cross-train in other store areas to support customer service.
• Prepare merchandise for customer needs, such as tinting and mixing paint, cutting and threading pipe, cutting and bundling wood, cutting drywall, or cutting blinds.
• Guide customers through shopping or checkout.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
