About The Position

Goodwill Industries of Akron is hiring an entry-level Sales Associate / Cashier to support its community mission and provide excellent service to shoppers and donors. The Sales Associate is the face of the agency, welcoming each person and helping customers learn about and participate in the Elizabeth Clark Fund and Goodwill Club membership program. The role includes operating the cash register and point-of-sale system, completing transaction and business reports, answering phone calls, selecting and pricing donated goods and textiles, and keeping store areas neat and clean. The position involves interacting with both new and returning customers and working independently while contributing to a team environment.

Requirements

Ability to operate a cash register, including basic math, computer, and typing skills.
Ability to count back change.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Customer service skills.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Friendliness, reliability, and trustworthiness.
Ability to work independently while fostering a strong team atmosphere.

Responsibilities

Greet shoppers and donors warmly and provide customer service as the top priority.
Inform customers about the Elizabeth Clark Fund and invite them to participate.
Encourage customers to sign up for or use their Goodwill Club membership.
Assist with purchases and operate the cash register and point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently.
Complete donation counts, readings, daily business statements, deposits, and cash drawer balances.
Answer phone calls courteously and listen carefully to callers.
Select and price donated goods and textiles while meeting Goodwill quality control standards.
Keep all areas neat and clean.
Promote the agency positively and contribute to a strong team atmosphere.
