About The Position

The Sales Associate is at the heart of the Pet Care Center experience, helping pet parents find products and solutions for their pets while creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging retail environment. The role suits someone who enjoys helping others, learning about pet care, and working with a team in a fast-paced, purpose-driven setting. Associates support animal health and safety, provide accurate product and pet care information, deliver customer service, process transactions, and assist with stocking, merchandising, inventory, and daily store operations. The position is performed in a Pet Care Center and requires flexible availability during operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay is listed as $16.00–$22.00 per hour, with a starting rate of $17.13 hourly; actual rates vary based on factors including position, location, experience, and applicable minimum wage laws.

Requirements

• Passion for animals and interest in pet care.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills and comfort handling cash and transactions.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
• Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in proximity to animals, including exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals.
• Flexible availability to support Pet Care Center operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to perform frequent standing and walking, as well as bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting.

• Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support the health, safety, and proper care of animals in accordance with Petco policies and standards.
• Share accurate product and pet care information to help customers make informed choices.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for pets, customers, and partners.
• Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, and solution-focused service.
• Create positive shopping experiences that build trust and customer loyalty.
• Collaborate with teammates and support store sales and service goals.
• Help maintain an organized, visually appealing, clean, and easy-to-shop sales floor.
• Assist customers in selecting products and services that meet their pets’ needs.
• Educate customers on products, services, and promotions.
• Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently, including cashiering and point-of-sale transactions.
• Stock shelves, replenish merchandise, and support inventory integrity and stock accuracy.
• Assist with store recovery, merchandising, and promotional set-ups.
• Support daily operational routines and task execution.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
