About The Position

Ace Retail Group (ARG), a division of Ace Hardware Corporation, owns and operates multiple Ace brands and is one of the largest hardware retailers in the United States. The Sales Associate position is responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service, generating sales, merchandising product, owning assigned departments, and supporting the store management team. The Key Carrier role involves the overall direction of store associates and coordination of store operations in the absence of management, typically to cover for vacation or illness. The role requires adherence to Great Lakes Ace Hardware’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

Requirements

Six months related experience and/or training preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with customers or associates of the organization.
Ability to understand and respond to verbal instructions or questions.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear.
Frequently required to climb ladders and stand and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

Greet all customers and assist in answering questions about merchandise and locating items using The S.A.L.E.S. process.
Complete all company and departmental paperwork accurately, including Price Change Bulletins, Operation Actions, Red Tags, and Bin Tags.
Receive, open, and unpack cartons or crates of merchandise, checking paperwork against items received and replenishing stock.
Display and maintain merchandise on end caps, shelves, counters, or tables following company plan-o-grams and building displays to attract customers and promote sales.
Maintain on-hand integrity through inventory adjustment reports, including cycle counts and negative on-hand adjustments.
Follow the nightly maintenance checklist to ensure proper store recovery and cleanliness.
Maintain familiarity with new products and advertised merchandise.
Practice loss prevention techniques to minimize shoplifting losses.
Operate store tools including RF Gun, Back Office Procedures, and Store Opportunities.
Follow GLA policies and procedures for all transactions.
Engage customers to ensure they receive benefits of Ace Rewards membership and actively seek participation.
Perform Register Operations and Cash Control, including timely safe/register counting, banking, and communication with Store Manager.
Maintain accurate inventory through on-hand integrity, daily receiving, store opportunity communication, product flow, and adherence to corporate guidelines.
Ensure stock is organized and merchandised appropriately with proper flagging and pricing.
Provide and follow up on rain checks according to corporate guidelines.
Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Create and maintain a clean, safe, and presentable shopping experience.
Clean and maintain associate break rooms, restrooms, Helpful Hub, office, and/or customer service counter.
Complete nightly recovery.
Assist with color matching and mixing paint.
Assist and/or make recommendations to customers in service areas like chain, rope, key, and glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening.
Operate cash register, scan merchandise, engage in suggestive selling, properly tender transactions, and thank customers.
Adhere to all company policies.
Participate in periodic team meetings.
Maintain a continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance and work a flexible schedule including weekends.
