About The Position

Goodwill Industries of Akron is hiring an entry-level Sales Associate / Cashier to serve customers and donors while supporting the agency’s community mission. The role prioritizes friendly, reliable customer service and offers an opportunity to contribute to a positive store environment and develop a career with Goodwill. The Sales Associate greets customers and donors, promotes the Elizabeth Clark Fund, and encourages customers to sign up for or use their Goodwill Club membership. The associate processes purchases accurately using the cash register and point-of-sale system, completes store reports and cash-related records, answers phone calls, selects and prices donated goods and textiles according to Goodwill quality-control standards, and keeps all areas neat and clean. The schedule is flexible and may include weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.

Requirements

Ability to operate a cash register, including basic math, computer, and typing skills.
Ability to count back change.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Customer service skills.
Friendly manner and excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Reliability and trustworthiness.
Ability to work independently while fostering a strong team atmosphere and promoting the agency positively.
Availability for a flexible schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.

Responsibilities

Greet and provide customer service to shoppers and donors.
Make customers aware of the Elizabeth Clark Fund and ask them to participate.
Encourage customers to sign up for or use their Goodwill Club membership.
Process purchases accurately and efficiently using the cash register and point-of-sale system.
Complete reports including donation counts, readings, daily business statements, deposits, and cash drawer balances.
Answer phone calls with a friendly and attentive approach.
Select and price donated goods and textiles in accordance with Goodwill quality-control standards.
Keep all areas neat and clean.
