About The Position

The Sales Associate works in the Building Materials department during closing hours, welcoming customers and helping them find products and services for home improvement projects. The role combines customer service with merchandise handling, replenishment, order processing, and department-specific preparation. Associates may also cross-train in other store areas and assist customers with shopping or checkout. Duties may vary based on department needs.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of experience using a computer to input, access, modify, or output information.
• At least 6 months of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic, including addition and subtraction.
• Ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary for the job.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds unassisted, or more than 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
• Follow lifting guidelines, limiting single lifts to 75 pounds; use team lifts minimally starting at 75 pounds or when needed.
• Use powered equipment as required, with proper training or assistance from a trained coworker.

Nice To Haves

• At least 6 months of retail and/or customer service experience.
• Bilingual skills.
• Certification in a trade related to the department, such as hardware, kitchen, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, or lumber/building materials.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers, answer questions, and provide friendly, professional customer service.
• Help customers locate, select, and handle merchandise.
• Down stock merchandise by identifying empty shelf areas and replenishing supplies.
• Process orders and deliveries accurately so customers receive merchandise as expected and on time.
• Cross-functionally train in other store areas to support customer service.
• Prepare merchandise for customer needs, such as cutting and bundling wood or cutting drywall.
• Guide customers through shopping or checkout.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
