About The Position

As a Sales Associate at Petco, you are central to the Pet Care Center experience. You help pet parents find suitable products and solutions while creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for customers, pets, and team members. The role suits someone who enjoys helping others, learning about pet care, and collaborating in a fast-paced retail setting. The position combines customer service and sales with cashiering, merchandising, stocking, inventory support, and store upkeep. Associates support animal health and safety in accordance with Petco policies and standards, share accurate product and pet care information, and follow company procedures and safety standards. Work takes place in a Pet Care Center retail environment and involves active engagement on the sales floor. The role includes frequent standing and walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting; safely moving merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds; and working near animals, animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals. Flexible availability is required to support operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

Passion for animals and an interest in pet care.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Basic math skills and comfort handling cash and transactions.
Strong attention to detail and reliability.
Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in proximity to animals and exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals.
Flexible availability to support Pet Care Center operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Support the health, safety, and proper care of animals in accordance with Petco policies and standards.
Share accurate product and pet care information to help customers make informed choices.
Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, and solution-focused service.
Help customers select products and services that meet their pets’ needs, and educate them about products, services, and promotions.
Create positive shopping experiences that build trust and customer loyalty.
Support store sales and service goals.
Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently, including cashiering and point-of-sale transactions.
Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, organized, and visually appealing store and sales floor.
Stock shelves, replenish merchandise, and support inventory integrity and stock accuracy.
Assist with store recovery, merchandising, promotional set-ups, and daily operational routines.
Collaborate with and support teammates in achieving store goals.
Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards, and complete additional assigned tasks.
