About The Position

The Sales Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists in the efficient and effective maintenance of thrift store operations. This role contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards, may assist with store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays, and replenishes inventory levels based on directions. The Sales Associate also contributes to inventory control by retrieving, sorting, and pricing items, and protects the store from shrinkage through visual monitoring. Responsibilities include accurate financial transactions (credit card, debit, cash), daily cash-outs, balancing sales and floats, and complying with safety procedures and maintenance guidelines, including janitorial duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Must have completed some High School.
  • Must hold or obtain a recent Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, satisfactory to TSA.
  • Must receive clearance from TSA Abuse Registry Check.
  • Required to complete WHMIS training annually.
  • Required to complete Praesidum Academy training modules relevant to position.
  • Energetic, takes initiative, team player, organized and productive.
  • Creative and flexible with the ability to adapt based on team, program, and service needs.
  • Physical dexterity; frequently sitting for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling and lifting up to 251bs.
  • May on occasion be required to lift, move, or transport weights up to 501bs.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions and well-defined steps.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior related experience, including in a warehouse or thrift store setting, is an asset.
  • Current certification in First Aid / CPR, or willingness to obtain, is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
  • May assist with store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays.
  • Replenish inventory levels based on directions.
  • Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring.
  • Takes responsibility for the accurate financial transactions including credit card, debit, and cash.
  • Perform daily cash-outs, including balancing sales and floats.
  • Complies with all safety procedures and in/outdoor tidy maintenance guidelines.
  • Performs janitorial duties as requested.
  • Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store/warehouse, cleans spillage).
  • Universal precautions: wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including gloves/glasses.
  • Use anti-fatigue mats when necessary.
