Sales Associate
About The Position
The Department of Business Services at the University of Virginia seeks a Sales Associate to join The University of Virginia Bookstore in Charlottesville, Virginia. The position provides customer assistance and supports sales-floor presentation, inventory replenishment, purchase orders, transfers, and stockroom organization. It is a non-exempt, benefited position with an anticipated pay range of $15.00–$18.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. The position does not sponsor applicants for work visas, and background checks are conducted on all new hires before employment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of related work experience.
- Strong communication and active listening skills to provide exceptional customer service.
- Knowledge of cash handling and math skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in decision making.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Availability to work weekend and evening shifts.
- Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift and frequently bend, lift, and walk.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 45 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Two to three years of related work experience.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and offer assistance.
- Monitor stock on the sales floor and replenish as needed.
- Keep the sales-floor area neat and orderly, and replace tags as directed.
- Respond to customer inquiries in person and by telephone.
- Receive designated purchase orders and daily transfers.
- Keep the stockroom clean, safe, and well organized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
