About The Position

As a Principal at Merit, you will ensure our teams perform at the highest level possible and achieve the overall goals of Merit Advisors. The Principal makes certain that the operation is geared towards growth, profitability, and fulfilling the short-term and long-term goals and objectives of the firm. The ideal candidates will have a strong track record of running and executing client engagements and interacting with clients, as well as strong business/finance (commercial) aptitude. You must have a self-driven, conscientious mentality committed to creating innovations through high-quality work.

Requirements

  • Possess an expert-level understanding of state tax laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and strong self-motivation and motivate the team.
  • Must be able to work independently but also effectively delegate work.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects, activities, and deadlines.
  • Deep experience working with Excel or Access, PowerPoint required.

  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively.

  • Bachelor’s (or advanced) degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration
  • 10+ years of relevant experience as a consultant
  • Exceptional communication skills (interaction with government officials, C-Suite, and staff/colleagues)
  • Proven Business Development skills
  • Analytical and able to solve complex problems in tight timelines
  • Able to coordinate, delegating, and managing others
  • Deep industry expertise of applicable taxes and regulations
  • Goal-driven personality with the ability to deliver measurable results
  • Understanding of accounting/finance and covered industries
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a consulting team to provide the highest-level service to clients through accurate data analysis and industry-leading results throughout the property tax cycle.
  • Provide strong client engagement skills and be able to teach those skills and hold others accountable for those skills.
  • Serve as a leader who communicates, demonstrates, and enforces the firm’s Mission Statement and goals throughout their team.
  • Manage overall client relationships and ensure managers are cultivating a positive and motivating team environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative to accomplish financial goals and manage the economics of the overall book of business as well as economics of individual project engagements.
