About The Position

Fraser Health is seeking a SAHI Medical Liaison. The SAHI Medical Liaison provides clinical liaison, strategic direction, and advocacy to improve the health and wellbeing of South Asian populations served by Fraser Health. This role is responsible for fostering culturally safe, equitable, and community-engaged health care, and for integrating South Asian perspectives into clinical decision-making, service planning, and organizational policy.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree and valid licensure to practice medicine in British Columbia, Canada.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of clinical experience, with demonstrated expertise in South Asian health, cultural safety, community engagement, and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with humility and a cultural perspective.
  • Commitment to culturally safe, equitable, and community-engaged health care.
  • Respect, caring, and trust in all relationships.
  • Dedication to continuous quality improvement and transformative change.

Nice To Haves

  • Lived experience or strong connection to South Asian communities is highly valued.
  • Preference for candidates who self-identify as South Asian.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison between Fraser Health, South Asian communities, and clinical stakeholders to promote culturally safe and equitable health care practices.
  • Guide the integration of South Asian cultural safety, health equity, and community engagement principles into clinical protocols, decision support tools, and service delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices and protocols relevant to South Asian health needs.
  • Incorporate cultural and equity metrics into quality and safety reporting, including the development of key indicators for monitoring and reporting progress toward strategic goals.
  • Support development of and updates to policies, protocols, and guidelines to reflect best practices in South Asian health and community engagement.
  • Establish program processes and outcome targets for clinicians to implement cultural safety and community engagement in practice.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with South Asian communities, government, academic partners, and external agencies.
  • Facilitate joint initiatives, committees, and working groups focused on South Asian health, cultural safety, and health equity.
  • Serve as an ambassador for South Asian health, delivering lectures, facilitating committees, and representing Fraser Health at professional gatherings.
  • Support development and implementation of training programs for clinicians and staff on South Asian cultural safety, health equity, and community engagement.
  • Support teaching, learning, and research opportunities in collaboration with academic and clinical leadership.
  • Contribute to research activities, program evaluation, and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations.
  • Engage South Asian communities, patients, and the broader public to ensure their needs are reflected in the development of regional health program plans, particularly in areas where significant change is anticipated.
  • Actively participate as a member of joint leadership tables, including relevant steering committees and working groups.
  • Uphold and work in partnership with South Asian organizations and leaders throughout the region.
  • Prepare reports on program activities, outcomes, and strategic developments for stakeholders and funding bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with health authority regulations and standards.
  • Participate in strategic planning and policy development for SAHI initiatives.
