About The Position

This position is responsible for promoting and maintaining safe work practices and conditions in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations. The role involves assisting the Director of Safety and Risk Management in enforcing company environmental health and safety policies, identifying and controlling hazardous conditions, managing a digital fleet management system, and delivering training programs. The specialist will also conduct safety audits, provide safety reports, and ensure adherence to safety standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of safety experience or combination of education/multiple years of experience, and a working knowledge of, MSHA safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and being able to type proficiently on a desktop computer keyboard.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to undergo a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Ongoing compliance is required.
  • Proficiently read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to understand and read GPS from company issued tablet.
  • Required to have an active telephone with texting or email account. This does not prohibit incorrect use of a phone when operating a CMV and Ernst Cell Phone Policy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including: Management, supervisors, and peers; People at various social levels.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform job functions in accordance with Company policies and management directives, including adherence to personal appearance standards, safety protocols, and P.P.E. requirements, while promptly reporting any unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to the plant manager.
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors.
  • Proficient basic math skills, e.g. addition, subtraction, fractions, and percentages.
  • Proven safe driving record.
  • No unexplained gaps in employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in occupational safety and health, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Valid State-Issued Driver’s License, Class A or B, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Risk Management in enforcing and adhering to company environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and/or property damage using job specific safety standards, best management practices.
  • Manage digital fleet management system.
  • Assist and conduct new hire safety orientation & plant safety meetings.
  • Deliver annual training programs and provide ongoing remedial training and coaching to support employee development and performance.
  • Provide safety reports for the Director of Safety and Risk Management as required.
  • Conduct safety audits and recommend corrective action per Company policy and work for the Director of Safety and Risk Management to issue reports of any violations or unsafe practices for immediate resolution.
