About The Position

Supports the Safety Department in the management of safety programs, ensuring the company’s compliance with all transportation and safety regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and all state and federal regulations. Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates Safety Leadership Training for Foremen, General Foremen, and Area Managers. This role requires the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations made for qualified individuals with disabilities. The specialist will be responsible for managing new hire paperwork, maintaining driver qualification files, scheduling drug and alcohol testing, and coordinating training activities. They will also interpret DOT policies, update procedures, and collaborate with the Safety Manager to develop and evaluate leadership training programs. The role demands effective communication and presentation skills, proficiency in computer use, and the physical ability to conduct on-site inspections and training.

Requirements

Must have the physical ability to conduct inspections and audits and conduct training on-site in the field.
Must have effective communication and presentation skills to be able to work closely with employees of all levels.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
Maintain professional behavior in and out of work environment.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Flexibility to work in a team environment as well as individually.

Responsibilities

Ensure DOT and Non-DOT new hire paperwork is completed correctly
Maintain Drivers Qualification electric files in Compliance with FMCSA and Company DOT requirements.
Notify drivers of upcoming document expirations, obtain renewed documents, and upload them.
Schedule random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing as required.
Set up new medical clinics as needed, update the list, and publish it.
Prepare electronic records and reports pertaining to employee training activities.
Assist in coordinating training activities and apprentice program with other supervisory personnel and employees.
Implement company and departmental policies, procedures, and service standards in conjunction with management.
Interpret DOT policies and procedures and provide employee guidance.
Update procedures, policies, and standards.
Streamline efficiencies and processes to ensure value add to the Safety and Training Department.
Collaborate with Safety Manager to develop Safety Leadership Training from the needs assessment phase to implementation and evaluation.
Assess and maintain learning metrics to measure training effectiveness.
Adhere to all Company EEO, affirmative action, safety, and quality assurance programs.
Conduct inspections and audits and conduct training on-site in the field.
Work closely with employees of all levels.
