About The Position

The Safety Trainer will be responsible to facilitate and deliver training for the onsite teams and serve as an SME for other departments, as well as supporting training activities. This will include, but is not limited to, creating and updating training manuals for each training program, development, maintenance and training of SOP’s, JSA’s, one-point lessons, and training tracking matrix. The Safety will work with Supervisors to observe training of personnel and document training performance for each trainee. In addition, the Safety Trainer will also be the onsite trainer for all personnel at the Coaldale site who require training in 1st Aid, PIV’s (Forklifts and Skid Steer), Scissor/Boom Lifts and Personal Fall Protection, and will need to maintain training records and documentation related to these courses and associated certifications. This position is based in a regulated manufacturing environment and requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Employees must consistently follow all GMP, safety, and hygiene requirements, including restrictions on jewelry, personal items, and attire while on the production floor. Compliance with these standards is an essential duty of the role to ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend complex technical instructions, correspondence, and memos such as safety rules, operating instructions, and technical operation and procedure manuals.
  • Must have the ability to write clear and concise correspondence and routine reports.
  • Effectively present and train on maintenance topics and provide information in one-on-one and group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentage, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply a reasonable person understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Twelve months related experience and/or some combination of college or technical courses and experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with passing score on the mechanical job skills test.
  • Attends work consistently and on time.
  • Able to multi-task, manage competing demands, and adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills, experience with SAP an asset

Nice To Haves

  • Associated diploma, degree and/or technical certification with prior leadership experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated Training experience would be an asset, such as Train the Trainer or other Training certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently administer and schedule on the job training.
  • Manage all documentation related to relevant and required training for employees.
  • Develops, communicates and coordinates training plans for employees in conjunction with their supervisors and adjusts plans when necessary.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of all conditions affecting the training process.
  • Creates and maintains training materials, including but not limited to training manuals, SOP’s, JSA’s, one-point lessons, checklists, tests, reviews, etc.
  • Facilitates, schedules, and documents vendor training as needed.
  • Evaluates the progress of training and analyzes the effectiveness of training procedures and training materials.
  • Treats people with respect, follows-up on commitments, and strives to uphold organizational values.
  • Actively looks and seeks out areas of improvement and develops innovative and creative solutions to problems with the training process.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of trainees, trainers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Able to speak clearly in front of large groups and deliver training in an effective manner.
  • Able to write clearly and informatively and able to read and interpret written information.
  • Use time efficiently by prioritizing and planning required work activities.
  • Communicate any problems or changes in working environment to appropriate personnel.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process.
