About The Position

This position at Pilgrim's is responsible for assisting in the submission of regular reports on safety and health status to senior management. The role involves advising senior management, supervisors, and the Occupational Health Department, and working with the Plant Safety Committee. The technician will assist in implementing new safety and health management systems, maintain and track the accident record system, investigate accidents, and ensure corrective measures are taken to prevent reoccurrence. Responsibilities also include conducting monthly supervisor safety training (train the trainer), supervising departmental safety training, and initiating activities to maintain employee interest in safety and health. The role requires conducting weekly plant safety inspections and daily inspections to identify and address unsafe practices and conditions. Additionally, the technician will assist in managing exposure control, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation programs, ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws and company policies. The position also involves assisting the complex safety manager and management team in setting standards for personal protective equipment and machine guarding, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years related experience in poultry or meat processing plant
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions
  • Must be able to work flexible days/hours when needed
  • College degree required. Directly related experience may be substituted for degree requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in submitting regular reports on the status of safety and health to senior management.
  • Act as advisor to senior management, supervisors and Occupational Health Department when needed.

  • Make daily plant inspections to uncover unsafe work practices and conditions before they cause accidents.
  • Assist in management of exposure control program, hazard communication program, respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and company policies on industrial safety and health.
  • Assist the complex safety manager and management team in setting standards for personal protective equipment and machine guarding.
  • Other duties as assigned.
