The Safety Support Specialist performs the function of Safety Support pursuant to the 1 on 1 Monitoring Policy by complying with the Safety Support continuous observation responsibilities. This position is NOT a hands-on position and does not provide medical care or security. When on standby, the specialist responds to the Memorial Regional Health Emergency Department within 30 minutes. The role involves maintaining awareness of patient safety needs, remaining attentive to patient room activity, and working with staff to inventory and secure patient belongings. The specialist monitors visitors, notifies medical staff of any non-conformity to patient safety recommendations, and reports relevant observations and interactions to the RN and clinical staff. They provide appropriate support to patients and families, offer resources regarding mental health services, and may assess basic living needs, reporting this information to the RN and Social Worker. The specialist interacts with staff in a way that best serves the patient’s needs and reports to the Emergency Behavioral Health team with necessary forms and concerns. Adherence to the MRH mission and service model is expected, along with performing other assigned duties.
