About The Position

This position is NOT a hands-on position. Safety Supports do not provide medical care or security. The Safety Support Specialist performs the function of Safety Support pursuant to the 1 on 1 Monitoring Policy by complying with the Safety Support continuous observation responsibilities. When on standby, they respond to the Memorial Regional Health Emergency Department within 30 minutes. They maintain awareness of patient safety needs and remain attentive to any activity in the patient room. They work with staff to inventory patient’s personal belongings and keep them secure. They monitor visitors by notifying medical staff of any non-conformity to patient safety recommendations made by the provider. They report relevant observations and interactions to RN and clinical staff assigned to care for the patient. They provide appropriate support to the patient and family, and provide resources regarding mental health services to the patient and family. They may assess patient’s basic living needs and provide information to the RN and Social Worker. They interact with the staff in a way that best serves the patient’s needs. They report to the Emergency Behavioral Health team with Safety Support forms, scheduling conflicts/gaps, and other concerns as they arise. They adhere to the MRH mission and service model to patients and community. They perform other duties as assigned.
