About The Position

The Safety Specialist will provide coaching and subject matter expertise to the site’s management and employees in all matters related to Health & Safety (H&S), including all potential losses. This role is an integral member of the site’s management team and will lead the site in the execution of H&S strategy. The specialist will promote a Continuous Improvement Culture and Cross Functional Teams, and assist with the oversight of the site’s H&S management system, processes, and programs to ensure continuous improvement as well as regulatory and company compliance. The role requires continually engaging employees to ensure desired H&S behaviors are demonstrated at all levels of the organization and assisting with minimizing losses, including managing workers’ compensation claims, property damage, business interruption, and unexpected costs.

Requirements

  • Experience with OSHA, MSHA, or other similar regulatory agencies is required.
  • Proficient computer skills and working with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is a must.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities appropriately.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Experience working with employees who are part of a unionized labor force.
  • Must be able to support a continuous improvement environment as well as change management initiatives.
  • Able to travel regularly to cover assigned locations.
  • Able to develop and conduct training programs.
  • Excellent organization, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, challenge status quo, and initiate change.
  • Knowledge of people management skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous manufacturing business sector.
  • Knowledge of Safety Regulations
  • Technical creditability as it relates to industry
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skill; effectively conveys the intended message to all levels within and outside the organization and effectively listens to concerns and issues of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably, (but not required) in H&S related field, or equivalent experience and training, is preferred.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Mine Safety Specialist, or Certified Safety Professional, is a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
