About The Position

The Safety Specialist is responsible for fostering an empowered, well-trained safety culture and ensuring a safe workplace for all employees, contractors, and visitors. This role collaborates with and champions safety initiatives across all operations to maximize the effectiveness of the Safety Program, Safety Leadership Team, Safety Committee, managers, and supervisors. As the organization's safety subject matter expert, the Safety Specialist partners with all departments to assess current safety performance, identify risks and opportunities for improvement, and recommend and implement strategies that strengthen safety processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Requirements

Associate Degree in a related field or Certified Safety Professional
Demonstrated competency developing and delivering Safety Training via in person and software based structure.
1 or more years of relevant experience in manufacturing
Ability to become certified in forklift and overhead crane operation
Ability to become certified as Emergency Medical Responder
Ability to become certified in Chemical Handling
Ability to read and write in English to complete required documentation
Pro-active leader with consultative and collaborative approach
Strong administrative skills and strong technical comprehension

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Industrial Health and Safety, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
3 or more years safety experience in manufacturing
Experience with OSHA Recordkeeping Standards and General Industry Standards
Experience with Investigations, audits, Hazard Recognition, Training, Recordkeeping, and Behavioral Safety

Responsibilities

Direct supervision of Safety/Security staff.
Maintain, train, audit, and continuously improve the effectiveness of all staff involved activities covered by OSHA or LSI Safety Programs.
Ensure facility is compliant with all OSHA, Federal and State/Local guidelines.
Maintain, train, audit, and continuously improve the collaboration, professionalism and readiness of Emergency response and directly coordinate all Emergency Response staff at LSI.
Develop and administer Safety training to Ensure all LSI staff are effectively trained (competency based) in all required Safety protocols and policies as illustrated in the Safety Management Plan.
Compile all OSHA, Safety Program, Training and Work Comp Metrics, and resulting reports.
Analyzes accident data to identify trends and accident types that can be prevented and generates reports for Safety Leadership Team.
