About The Position

McKee Foods is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our HR team. This role involves training employees on specialized safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with regulations, overseeing field activities, and monitoring for health and safety compliance. The specialist will investigate accidents, identify potential causes, and recommend policy changes to prevent accidents and illness. They will provide specialized knowledge in safety programs, procedures, and regulatory compliance, offering consulting and support services to business partners. This includes reviewing safety measures data, identifying hazards, reducing risk, and performing safety audits. The role is also responsible for disaster planning (Fire, Chemical, Natural disaster) and developing relationships with local emergency agencies. A working knowledge of current OSHA regulations and adopted standards is essential. The Safety Specialist must demonstrate workplace behavior consistent with company policies and values, communicate job information effectively, maintain good attendance, and exercise personal safety while promoting the safety of others. This position may involve supervising other employees, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work. The role also coordinates Safety Risk Assessment efforts.

Requirements

  • At least 31 semesters hours of college or equivalent work experience (2 years of work experience is equal to 1 year of education)
  • Three full years of employment in a related position with this corporation or some other organization
  • Positive human relations skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent communication, personal and digital communication skills.
  • Verifiable and stable work history
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required to support business needs.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a passport

Nice To Haves

  • 4 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • 4 year degree in occupational safety, safety management or safety engineering
  • OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Experience
  • Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer
  • Other Advanced Safety Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Trains employees on specialized safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Oversees field activities and monitors for health and safety compliance.
  • Investigates accidents and reviews accident reports.
  • Identifies potential causes for accidents and recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
  • Provides specialized knowledge in safety programs, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides safety consulting and support services to business partners.
  • Reviews safety measures data and works with business partners to identify hazards and reduce risk.
  • Performs safety audits for business partners.
  • Is responsible for disaster planning including Fire, Chemical and Natural disaster.
  • Provides consulting services to business partners regarding safety and property health concerns.
  • Develops and maintains a working relationship with local emergency agencies.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current OSHA regulations and other consensus standards adopted by OSHA.
  • Demonstrates workplace behavior consistent with company policies and values.
  • Communicates job information to accomplish work tasks.
  • Maintains good attendance as defined by company and/or department policy.
  • Exercises personal safety on the job and demonstrates a commitment to the safety of others.
  • May supervise other employees and may be responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit.
  • May carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Coordinates Safety Risk Assessment efforts.
