About The Position

The Health and Safety Specialist role is a one-year contract that involves overseeing safety practices, coaching safe work behaviors, and leading incident investigations at the Project Sunlight facility. Additionally, it includes supporting health and safety programs, documenting incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols like LOTO and inspections. This is a 6 months of contract position.

Requirements

  • Health and Safety education required
  • 1-2 years of experience working in the field of health and safety
  • Manufacturing experience is an asset
  • Experienced with the safe handling of chemicals in accordance with WHMIS.
  • Possess strong administrative skills with the ability to navigate various software systems, including Intelex, Microsoft suite, and Velocity
  • Willingness to participate in training and coaching of new employees in procedure adherence and safe work practices
  • Ability to work well with plant supervision and production employees
  • Team player with excellent attendance
  • Analytical, organized, and attention to detail
  • Ability to accept and embrace change in a fast-paced environment
  • Good safety record
  • Organizational and Time Management
  • Supports and maintains the Management System.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement activities (as required by MDI)
  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to master other specialized software/EMIS platforms (Intelex).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for observing and maintaining safety work practices throughout the facility
  • Coaching and intervention of safe work practices
  • Maintain, initiate, lead, and document incident investigations
  • Participation in Health and Safety Programs, including Safety Interactions, GEMBA, and Risk Assessments
  • Support incident reporting, tracking, and monitoring incident rates per shift
  • Be a resource and lead safe facilitation of LOTO when needed
  • Document Control and Audits, such as inspection forms, incident reports, investigations, etc.
  • Communication of safety incidents and toolbox safety moments
  • Assisting in Health and Safety program completion
  • This position is based in a regulated manufacturing environment and requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Employees must consistently follow all GMP, safety, and hygiene requirements, including restrictions on jewelry, personal items, and attire while on the production floor. Compliance with these standards is an essential duty of the role to ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
