The anticipated temporary assignment duration is 3 months. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. This role involves conducting risk assessments, inspections, training sessions, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. About the Role: Join our team as a Health and Safety Specialist and take the initiative in fully establishing and promoting a safe and healthy work environment within a life science medical device manufacturing facility. This role provides an excellent opportunity to implement industrial safety practices, ensure compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, and enforce safety standards relevant to medical device production, including handling of specialized machinery, cleanroom protocols, and chemical safety.

Requirements

  • Degree in a post-secondary program specializing in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Thorough knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, WHMIS, and familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and ability to translate knowledge into action and implementation
  • 1-3 years of prior experience in manufacturing safety, chemical safety, or cleanroom protocols
  • Strong attention to detail with an analytical mindset.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and confidence in training and promoting health and safety to others
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable with data entry and safety documentation.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Establish process to conduct regular workplace safety inspections focused on consumables cartridge manufacturing, assembly lines, and clean manufacturing environments.
  • Establish hazard identification and risk assessments specific to consumables cartridge manufacturing processes.
  • Help maintain and update Occupational Health and Safety policies, safety data sheets (SDS), and safe work procedures relevant to manufacturing and clean production operations.
  • Investigate and document safety incidents, near-misses; prepare detailed reporting findings from root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures.
  • Establish protocols for emergency response planning and drills.
  • Prepare safety training programs for employees, including machine safety, chemical handling, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Coordinate and deliver health and safety training sessions for employees and management.
  • Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario’s OHSA, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and relevant industry standards.
  • Assist in tracking and reporting workplace incidents, corrective actions, and near-misses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Production, Facilities, and EH&S team from other Bio-Techne sites to ensure health and safety integration.
  • Help promote a culture of health and safety awareness across the manufacturing floor.
