About The Position

Peraton is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to assist in implementing Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across the company. This role involves providing EHS guidance, ensuring compliance with regulations, developing site-specific plans, and supporting various EHS initiatives. The specialist will also be involved in emergency preparedness, audits, training, hazard evaluation, and reporting on EHS activities and metrics. A key aspect of the role includes collecting and analyzing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data for climate strategy and ESG reporting, as well as assisting with crisis management and championing a proactive safety culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience, Master’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience, or HS Diploma and 6 years of experience.
  • 2+ years of professional EHS experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment and building positive relationships.
  • Mature attitude and ability to work effectively independent of supervision.
  • Excellent written, oral, coaching, instructional, presentation, and interpersonal skills within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to speak to, and deliver messaging to, both small and large groups with varied backgrounds and experience
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, data management and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (BI Dashboard experience preferred)
  • Experience implementing EHS Management Systems (OHSA 18001, ISO 14001).
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and industry standards.
  • Availability to travel up to 25%.
  • Abilities include lifting up to 25 lbs, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical and chemical agents.
  • The ideal candidate must live within two hours of a Peraton office in either Maryland, Virginia, Florida, or New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS guidance to programs across the company and/or a client site.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and industry standards, including OSHA, EPA, MDE, NFPA, ANSI.
  • Coordinate with Corporate EHS lead and Site Point of Contacts (POC) to develop site-specific EHS plans, permits, and other documents related to safety.
  • Assist in maintaining emergency preparedness plans and coordinate emergency drills and exercises.
  • Support and conduct EHS audits, site inspections and injury investigations as needed.
  • Assist in developing and providing site-specific EHS training, educational, and awareness training.
  • Evaluate work processes for hazards and risk factors. Propose mitigation strategies.
  • Report to Corporate EHS Lead on weekly activities including, task order EHS support status, safety mishaps, EHS metrics, reports and plans delivered to the customer.
  • Prepare incident reports and perform root cause corrective action analysis of mishaps.
  • Develop and revise EHS related programs and policies, as necessary.
  • Collect, verify, and provide analysis of Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data from internal stakeholders and third-party vendors in relation to our climate strategy for GHG emissions, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and carbon footprint reporting and tracking. Support and maintain the GHG emissions model.
  • Identify GHG reduction opportunities and support the development of emissions reduction targets
  • Assist with Crisis Management strategies.
  • Performs other related EHS duties as assigned.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture through engagement initiatives, safety committees, reporting and behavioral based safety (BBS) programs
