About The Position

The Safety Specialist II is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining health and safety programs within a manufacturing environment. This role leads site-wide EHS compliance efforts, including OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI standards, manages EHS metrics and reporting systems, conducts inspections and risk assessments, and supports incident investigations and corrective actions. The Safety Specialist partners closely with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to proactively identify hazards, support change management, deliver training, and drive continuous improvement to ensure a safe, compliant, and high-performing workplace.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years’ experience as a safety professional, coordinator, or specialist in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree completed
  • OSHA 30 hour – General Industry certificate
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA.
  • Knowledge of legal repercussions of workplace injuries/accidents and strong leadership skills.
  • Comfort in leveraging multiple software platforms to integrate solutions with existing business platforms.
  • Adept at conflict resolution and finding consensus in challenging situations.

Nice To Haves

  • CSP, CIH, or other technical certification
  • OSHA 501 – Trainer certificate for General Industry

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and promote health and safety programs and policies to promote a safe work environment and mitigate exposure to the environment.
  • Lead all safety and health compliance obligations for the organization (i.e. HV, cranes, LOTO, HazCom, Arc Flash / NFPA 70E and PPE) to drive compliance and continual improvement.
  • Serve as the system administrator for all EHS Metrics including, but not limited to incident and corrective action management, compliance training, safety observations, and near miss reporting.
  • Drive Change Management for the site, which includes a detailed process to ensure any safety issues are identified and mitigated prior to change in the facility.
  • Track EHS performance and communicate results through dashboards and visual reporting.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reporting (i.e. OSHA 300A).
  • Provide EHS training and serve as the system administer for Proterra’s EHS Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Conduct safety inspections, ergonomic risk assessments, job hazard analysis, PPE assessments, and ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and local authorities.
  • Lead the safety acceptance process for all new and modified equipment, including facilitating collaboration and ensuring clear ownership of improvement actions.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and operations teams to align EHS efforts with business priorities.
  • Coordinate incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop and integrate health and safety programs.
  • Provide hands-on health and safety support to the facility, including shop floor.
  • Maintain clear project and program documentation and escalate risks or issues as needed.
  • Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.
