A little about us GVEA is an electric cooperative which owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. YOUR ROLE AS A SAFETY SPECIALIST II As a Safety Specialist II at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play a critical role in supporting safe operations at the Healy Power Plant and Eva Creek Wind Farm. In this role, you will provide on-site safety support, conduct inspections, deliver training, and assist employees, contractors, and leadership with maintaining compliance with occupational health and safety standards. You will help identify and mitigate workplace hazards, support emergency response planning, conduct incident investigations, and assist with the development and implementation of safety programs, procedures, and training initiatives. Responsibilities also include supporting respiratory protection programs, confined space and LOTO compliance, PPE management, contractor safety oversight, and regulatory reporting. Additionally, you will collaborate with plant leadership to promote a strong culture of safety, provide guidance on regulatory requirements, and support continuous improvement efforts related to workplace health, safety, and risk mitigation. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field; equivalent industrial safety experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum eight years of relevant experience in an industrial work environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ADEC, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, and NIOSH regulations and standards.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and safety training.
  • Ability to support confined space, respiratory protection, fall protection, and other hazard mitigation programs.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license required.
