About The Position

Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the elders, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance. The Safety & Security Coordinator provides centralized, independent oversight of safety, security, and emergency preparedness across all Food for the Poor Jamaica operations. The role exists to protect staff, volunteers, facilities, inventory, and organizational reputation, while strengthening compliance with Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) requirements, occupational safety expectations, and donor accountability standards. This role requires a trusted and highly confidential professional, loyal to FFTP’s mission and leadership, and committed to always embodying the organization’s Christian values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Risk Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant training or experience in security operations, safety management, risk management, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a comparable security, safety, or risk‑focused role
  • Experience working in complex or high‑risk operational environments is a strong asset
  • Formal security or safety certifications are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or the military.
  • Strong understanding of security operations and incident management

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor contracted security services, including gate guards and patrol services, ensuring compliance with agreed post orders and professional standards.
  • Monitor, review, and maintain oversight of the organization’s CCTV system across all facilities.
  • Investigate, document, and report security incidents, including theft, attempted theft, camera obstruction, access breaches, or suspicious activity.
  • Enforce access control procedures, visitor management protocols, bag policies, and restricted‑area rules.
  • Recommend security improvements and corrective actions to Executive Leadership based on incident trends or observed vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain, update, and test the organization’s Emergency Action Plan, ensuring it reflects operational realities and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate and document regular emergency drills (e.g., fire, intrusion, disaster response).
  • Provide safety and security guidance during disaster response operations, high‑volume distributions, or other elevated‑risk activities.
  • Identify workplace safety hazards and recommend mitigation measures to reduce injury, loss, or operational disruption.
  • Support AEO compliance through independent monitoring of physical security controls and access management.
  • Maintain accurate security incident logs, investigation reports, and supporting documentation suitable for audit and donor review.
  • Support internal and external audits, reviews, or investigations related to safety, security, loss prevention, or compliance.
  • Prepare periodic security and risk reports for Executive Leadership.
  • Serve as the organization’s formal liaison with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) on security‑related matters.
  • Manage formal security‑related engagement with surrounding communities when required, strictly within approved organizational protocols.
  • Escalate sensitive matters, including intimidation and/or threats to Executive Leadership.
  • Ensure frontline staff are not placed in confrontational or unsafe situations.
