Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to four years’ experience in a shop-based safety role.
  • Solid computer/software skills with MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Proven ability to learn new software programs and systems with ease and use software applications to perform tasks.
  • Strong verbal communication skills – communicates verbally in a manner appropriate for business, engages in active listening, as well as questioning and discovery skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – develops and maintains rapport and trust with both internal and external customers, demonstrates approachability and genuine interest in others’ concerns.
  • Exhibits professionalism – projects a professional image of oneself and the organization and demonstrates a positive attitude towards work and the Company.
  • Strong teamwork – identifies with the team and its goals, contributes to the groups’ effectiveness, and develops constructive and cooperative relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections. Documents all findings and corrective actions.
  • Develops safety procedures for the facility and supports leadership to ensure employee understanding, adoption and compliance.
  • Prepares, schedules and tracks training to cover workplace safety, emergency procedures and other relevant topics. This includes forklift, overhead crane, and rigging training. Maintains documentation of all the above.
  • Facilitates Job Safety Analysis program for facility as well as Toolbox Talks.
  • Orders PPE as needed. Purchases and installs signs as needed.
  • Provides support to facility safety committee. Documents meeting and actions.
  • Participates in Corporate Safety Committee meetings. Documents meeting and actions.
  • Monitors and reports on compliance with safety procedures.
  • Ensures safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible.
  • Ensures liquid waste discharge procedures are followed as required.
