This role assists the HS&E Department in ensuring compliance with Austal Safety Policies, Austal Fire and Flooding Plan, Corporate, State, and Federal regulations and guidelines regarding occupational safety & health. The Safety Representative III works with employees on safety issues and provides assistance on a variety of safety and risk/accident prevention concerns. This position involves performing site and equipment inspections, assisting in accident investigations, and conducting safety surveys to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety, and environmental conditions. The role is responsible for comprehensive on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices, and recommends corrective actions. Additionally, the Safety Representative III provides first response medical assistance until the arrival of the Austal medical team, calibrates and interprets air monitoring equipment, and conducts monthly inspection programs for fire extinguishers, air monitoring, vehicle checks, and eye wash stations. The position requires the ability to extinguish live fires at the incipient stage, respond to and mitigate hazardous materials spills, and collaborate effectively with other safety personnel, supervisors, and managers. The role also includes operating ships’ on-board fire suppression systems and complying with company guidelines, procedures, and policies. The Safety Representative III will conduct health, safety, and environmental workplace investigations.
