About The Position

These are year-round positions located in San Diego, CA with Onsite / Non-Remote responsibilities. We are seeking to hire 2 Mechanical Designers and 1 Electrical Designer. The pay range for this position is $45.92/Hr. to $55.06/Hr. If selected, the offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. This job requires visiting ships on a regular basis and working in an industrial environment. This will require some climbing, kneeling, bending, carrying a backpack, and occasionally needing to squeeze in between cabinets and into tight spaces. This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance if you do not already have one. You must be a US Citizen for consideration, and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years design experience, OR Bachelor’s degree with (2) years of design experience, OR Associate / Vocational School degree with four (4) years design experience required.
  • Ability to interpret and follow technical procedures, standards, and work instructions required.
  • Must have strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little oversight.
  • You must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates / Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Marine design / liaison experience may be required.
  • Design background with multi-discipline experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in developing designs in Auto-CAD.
  • Knowledge of DDG Class ships and shipboard systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ship checks to support DDG design development.
  • Development of ship alteration drawings for repair/alteration of ships in the fleet.
  • Acting in a liaison capacity, supporting the local PMR, SWRMC, and their Installing Agents (IA) with the installation of maintenance and / or modernization alterations during the ships scheduled CNO availabilities.
  • Support emergent waterfront issues and interface directly with the customer on the waterfront, Ship's Force, and GDBIW Engineers / Designers in Maine.
  • Proficiency in moderate-to-complex development work, problem solving, and the review / check of another employee's work may be required.
  • Ability to represent Bath Iron Works autonomously and in a professional manner.
