About The Position

Under supervision, the Safety Quality Assurance Inspector performs detailed safety inspections of multi-disciplined Authority construction projects; interprets contractor company policies and observes contractor employee practices to ensure construction safety and contract compliance; and performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field, or equivalent, or graduation from high school or G.E.D.
  • Minimum experience in construction safety, accident prevention, loss control and/or risk management:
  • Six (6) years of experience (for Inspector II).
  • Ten (10) years of experience (for Senior Inspector).
  • Two (2) years as a safety inspector in commercial facilities construction; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • OSHA 30-hour construction course.
  • OSHA 500 (train-the-trainer) certification.
  • 24-hour min HAZWOPER certification.
  • Competent Person designation in trenching & Excavation.
  • Competent Person in Scaffolding & False Work.
  • Competent Person in Fall Protection.
  • Current CPR & First Aid Card.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and inspects a variety of facility construction projects to ensure compliance with project documents / project contracts, state and federal regulations, and known industry safety standards for construction activities including: CSO, TSO, ESO, an OSHA Form 33 on projects throughout Airport Authority property.
  • Performs necessary field inspections to monitor, evaluate and document safety issues relating to construction projects and processes.
  • Prepares daily inspection reports and periodic progress reports on corrective measures undertaken by contractors when safety deficiencies are noted.
  • Assists on an as-needed basis in planning, developing, and implementing Authority-wide and specialized training programs in support of Authority's projects, ensures that the program initiatives protects airport staff, contractors, and the traveling public at construction sites; including but not limited to training in such areas as: hazard communication, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, fall protection, scaffolding safety, Crane lifts, heavy equipment operation, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program and 10 & 30 hour OSHA classes.
  • Reviews the safety program performance and safety performance on construction projects to ensure compliance with regulatory mandates and current professional practices: recommends and communicates appropriate safety standards and guidelines; verifies the compliance of contractors' safety plan with laws and regulations; tracks and reports safety metrics.
  • Assist in conducting accident investigations and injury, illness, and accident reports to ensure all casual factors have been identified and reported; collects relevant data through observation, testing, and interviewing; analyzes potential causes of accidents and injuries; prepares responsive and required reports.
  • Conducts workplace audits, inspections, and investigations; reviews work practices, and makes recommendations to ensure compliance with pertinent safety standards and laws, as well as accepted safe work techniques; and ensures that personal protective equipment (PPE) are readily available for use and properly maintained.
  • Participates in external professional associates and maintains a current working knowledge of industry best practices and any changes in regulatory standards and requirements regarding occupational safety and health in the construction industry.
