About The Position

The Safety Officer is responsible for driving and optimizing health and safety performance within Autoport (automotive logistics operations) and International Bulk Services (bulk transshipment operations). This role involves working in various industrial environments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, strengthening the safety culture, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across all sites. The Safety Officer plays a key role in H&S and business expertise, providing daily support, advice, and assistance to operational management and frontline employees. They are responsible for implementing safety programs, conducting incident investigations, ensuring the integrity of reporting, and collaborating with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field
  • Experience in an industrial or operational environment (automotive, bulk, manufacturing, or transportation)
  • Solid knowledge of industrial safety practices, including exposure to chemical hazards and process safety management
  • Experience with incident investigations, emergency response, and implementation of safety programs
  • Experience in project management and leading safety initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree or certificate in occupational health and safety or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and safety management systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and influencing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of railway operations is an asset
  • Professional safety designations such as CRSP, CSP, or ASP (or in progress) are an asset
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Execution of the safety program
  • Implementation and monitoring of safety programs in automotive terminals and transshipment facilities
  • Delivery and support of health and safety (H&S) training in collaboration with operational managers
  • Conducting incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Ensuring follow-up and implementation of corrective and preventive measures
  • Supporting the development and implementation of short- and long-term H&S improvement plans
  • Providing coaching and guidance to managers and frontline employees to strengthen the safety culture
  • Compliance and governance
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and provincial H&S regulations and company standards
  • Developing and maintaining safe work practices, policies, and procedures
  • Conducting periodic inspections, audits, and compliance activities
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies on compliance issues
  • Supporting and mentoring joint health and safety committees
  • Identifying and addressing compliance gaps
  • Performance and continuous improvement
  • Analyzing safety data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Developing and communicating key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety
  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of safety data and systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Updating health and safety documentation, manuals, and procedures
  • Conducting field audits and supporting the implementation of improvements
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives within both business units
