Under limited supervision, responsible for course development, training scheduling, training, documentation, field inspections, and compliance monitoring. The Safety Officer is the designated person for the City responsible for developing and implementing the safety compliance program for the City. The position is responsible for safety training program development, training of staff, training documentation, routine site inspections, special inspections, and site consultations, Virginia Occupational and Safety Health Act (VAOSHA) and Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) compliance verification, work site accident investigation, and assistance with equipment procurement. The Safety Officer will work with Department Administration, Division Managers, field staff, engineering consultants, and contractors associated with City projects, State safety officials, and the public. The Safety Officer reports to the Risk Manager. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
