About The Position

The Safety Manager is responsible for interpreting and guiding operations towards compliance with all applicable safety rules and regulations while complying with all environmental standards and/or Mountain Cement Company policies. This role requires a thorough knowledge of safety rules and regulations, leadership capabilities, integrity, strong communication skills, knowledge of cement manufacturing, and the ability to define root causes for non-compliance and accidents. The Safety Manager must also possess good decision-making skills and be capable of handling stress and maintaining constructive responses under all circumstances.

Requirements

  • A thorough knowledge of all safety rules and regulations (MSHA M/NM, OSHA, and State of Wyoming) and how they are interpreted and enforced by the regulatory agencies.
  • Leadership; capable of educating and motivating others to maintain compliance at all times.
  • Integrity and ethical behavior beyond reproach.
  • Good communication skills; writing, speaking, and listening effectively.
  • A thorough knowledge of cement manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate safety compliance objectives clearly to other company management/supervisory personnel and provide feedback/appraisals.
  • Ability to define the root causes for non-compliance and accidents to prevent their reoccurrence.
  • Good decision making skills based upon the ability to identify problems, collect relevant information/data, and generate alternatives.
  • Capability of handling stress associated with job duties, deadlines, and personnel interactions.
  • Capable of maintaining appropriate and constructive responses under all circumstances.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and general computer proficiency.
  • A fundamental understanding of all state and federal rules and regulations affecting all company operations, i.e. MSHA M/NM rules/regulations, State of Wyoming rules/regulations, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • Technical training in first response, First Aid/CPR, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • A B.S. degree in the Environmental Sciences or Safety Management is desirable.
  • A familiarity with legal interpretations and operations is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Directing the company safety program and accident prevention activities for all operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal and State of Wyoming rules/regulations.
  • Interpreting all safety rules and regulations for company supervisors and management personnel.
  • Serving as the company liaison with MSHA and Wyoming State Mine Inspector regulatory authorities.
  • Completing required paperwork, reports, and all other requests of safety regulatory agencies.
  • Conducting accident investigations, interviews, and completion of Worker’s Compensation paperwork.
  • Problem solving, including identifying problems, developing corrective actions, and holding company supervisors accountable for safety/accident performance.
  • Clearly communicating compliance goals/objectives to all employees, including enforcement and disciplinary action.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and teaching in all health and safety aspects.
  • Providing First Aid/CPR when needed.
