About The Position

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to promote a culture of safety across the organization. This role works closely with leadership, supervisors, and employees to identify risks, reduce incidents, and ensure a safe working environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in workplace safety, preferably in manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments.
  • Ability to be on call to support the organization, when needed, across multiple shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) and OSHA 30 training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with OSHA, VOSH, and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain all required safety programs, including LOTO, machine guarding, chemical safety, etc.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses to identify potential safety issues.
  • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Facilitate safety training programs, including onboarding and ongoing education for employees and management.
  • Monitor compliance with safety standards and maintain required documentation and records.
  • Manage and update emergency preparedness plans and coordinate drills (e.g., fire, evacuation, severe weather).
  • Partner with HR and leadership to promote a proactive safety culture and employee engagement in safety initiatives.
  • Analyze safety metrics and trends, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
  • Manage a team of safety coordinators in day-to-day campus activities.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and best practices in occupational health and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.
