About The Position

Sheakley is hiring an experienced Safety Manager to support a mechanical contractor on a major construction project at the Austin Convention Center. The project is currently focused on underground work, making this a strong opportunity for a safety professional with hands-on mechanical construction experience. This is a 1099 contract position with an approximate duration of 4 months, located in Austin, TX. The pay rate is $44 to $48 per hour, with a per diem of $125. The schedule is 40+ hours per week, with the potential to increase to approximately 60 hours during project ramp-up.

Requirements

  • Previous mechanical construction safety experience
  • Current OSHA 30
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety requirements
  • Experience supporting underground construction activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment with increasing hours during ramp-up

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily safety leadership for mechanical construction and underground work
  • Conduct site inspections and identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and work practices
  • Support job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and daily safety meetings
  • Monitor excavation, trenching, underground utility, equipment, and mechanical installation activities
  • Verify compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety procedures
  • Coach employees and subcontractors on hazard recognition and safe work practices
  • Enforce PPE, housekeeping, access-control, and site-safety requirements
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, training records, and corrective-action documentation
  • Partner with project leadership to address hazards before they affect employees or operations
