About The Position

Weyerhaeuser is hiring a Safety Manager for the McComb, MS Lumber operations. We are seeking an individual who is committed to safety, has a positive attitude, excellent work ethic and a desire to work closely with the site Leadership Team. The qualified candidate will utilize their comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety and health to ensure the safety of the McComb team and to achieve compliance with applicable safety standards. The Safety Manager, who reports directly to the Unit Manager, will actively participate on the site Leadership team and will lead the development and implementation of safety programs. Critical to this role is a demonstrated ability to influence, lead and role model safety. These skills will be critical in helping members of the leadership team understand how to improve a safety driven culture. This individual will be involved in a broad range of safety management and leadership initiatives including annual planning, budgeting, accountability, and performance management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Safety and Health or a related field, OR High School Diploma/GED with at least three (3) years' experience leading health & safety in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations/requirements
  • Leading and/or participating in safety Incident Investigations
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver safety training
  • Project management skills to include the ability to lead, develop and implement safety processes
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with hourly and salaried associates
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of health & safety software programs
  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work extended hours should a situation warrant
  • Robust leadership and communication skills with ability to influence a large organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to make critical decisions when necessary
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and achieve goals in a timely manner

Nice To Haves

  • Safety & industrial hygiene certification and/or training
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise on safety and health related matters and assist the leadership team in successfully implementing and managing safety processes.
  • Work directly with the leadership team to ensure safety programs are implemented in their entirety, including written programs, required training, and periodic audits to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local standards pertaining to workplace safety and health.
  • Coach and support the site Safety Lead Team and other Safety Committees/Teams to ensure effectiveness.
  • Identify and address the site’s highest-risks through the site’s risk-based safety plan.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations to determine root cause and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Coordinate an effective onboarding process for new employees to ensure their safety.
  • Provide safety-related project management support (e.g., Management of Change).
  • Monitor and support required annual safety training.
  • Audit safety systems and prioritize necessary follow-up by establishing action plans with site leaders.
