About The Position

The Safety Manager is based at GCC’s Tijeras, New Mexico cement manufacturing plant, approximately 15 minutes from Albuquerque, and reports directly to the Safety Director, with a strong dotted-line relationship to the Plant Manager. The role serves as the plant’s safety specialist, working with the line organization to control accident and health exposures and minimize regulatory violations. It provides guidance, awareness, and solutions that support safe and reliable operations while advancing the location’s safety culture as a change leader, educator, advocate, consultant, and mentor. The position involves daily interaction with the field workforce, building relationships and providing safety expertise. The Safety Manager administers and improves the safety program, supports compliance and incident prevention, delivers safety training, monitors adherence to policies, and works with plant and divisional leaders on safety goals and continuous improvement. Very little travel is anticipated, although occasional travel to other plants may be required based on organizational needs. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates. Annual compensation is $105,000 to $125,000.

Requirements

At least 5 years of related experience managing an organization's safety program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to multitask.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and training presentations.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations and respond to questions from employees at all levels, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to focus on details and understand the overall impact of events and decisions.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
At least 3 years of MSHA experience.
Certified training for dust/silica and noise sampling.

Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert for internal customers by interpreting regulations and advising on the development of programs, policies, and procedures.
Motivate others and secure cooperation in implementing effective safety programs; manage multiple priorities and work with personnel at all organizational levels.
Administer, direct, and manage compliance with the safety program, including coaching and performance of Field Verification of Critical Controls to reduce serious injury and fatality exposure and supporting local incident prevention.
Implement procedures and programs to improve the effectiveness of the safety program.
Deliver new-hire safety orientations, safety training, monthly safety meetings, and annual safety updates to employees, supervisors, and plant management.
Monitor adherence to safety policies and procedures in the plant and report discrepancies to plant management and the Safety Director.
Coordinate communication of safety information.
Collaborate with senior management and the safety team to establish and manage organizational safety goals, metrics, and priorities.
Lead continuous improvement efforts in safety performance and support implementation and maintenance of safety guidelines.
Work with the divisional safety team and plant management to prevent employee injuries and regulatory violations.
Coordinate and participate in the plant Safety Committee.
Interact with the field workforce daily, building relationships and providing safety expertise.
