About The Position

Our Chicago, IL client is seeking to add a NEW Intermodal Safety Manager to their team. The Intermodal Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of all intermodal operations within the region. This role partners closely with operations teams, drivers, and leadership to enforce safety policies, conduct training, and monitor performance. The position leads the development and execution of safety programs aimed at reducing incidents, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture. This is a Direct Hire role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety management experience, preferably within intermodal or transportation environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety programs and initiatives.
  • Experience conducting safety audits and inspections.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver training and engage across all organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret safety data and drive improvements.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs specific to intermodal operations, including driver safety, equipment safety, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as internal policies and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of operations, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Lead investigations into safety incidents and accidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Deliver safety training for employees, including onboarding and ongoing education for drivers and operational personnel.
  • Collaborate with regional and senior leadership to establish safety goals, track performance, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor safety metrics and report performance trends, including recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Stay current on evolving safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety through awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to safety-related concerns and incidents, providing guidance and resolution support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation, including reports, training records, and compliance certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
